THE IDC WOOD FINISHING PROCESS
The photos below show, step-by-step, what goes into every door we finish. The door used for this sequence features an optional distressed finish for an Old World look.

NATURAL STATE
Sample shown in natural state. (Optional distress marks are visible.)
______________________________
FIRST LAYER: HAND-RUBBED STAIN
We use hand-rubbed interior stains (see Color Selection below) that penetrate the surface slightly and offering us more color control to custom match stain colors.
______________________________
SECOND & THIRD LAYERS: SEALCOATS
Two coats of a European style 2-component polyurethane that offers exceptional adhesion and chemical resistance. This formula was specifically designed for exterior wood surfaces that are exposed to moisture, heat and chemicals. Notice that the color is slightly lighter as these coats begin to add UV protection that reflects light back from the face of the door.
______________________________
ANTIQUE GLAZE (OPTIONAL)
For antiqued and/or distressed finishes, an optional glaze is applied after the sealcoats. This glaze is then partially wiped off to create an antique patina.
______________________________
FOURTH & FIFTH LAYERS: CLEARCOAT
For the final coats, we apply Euro X's two-component satin polyurethane for a very hard, long-lasting finish. This provides an excellent (high solids) finish that is scratch and mar resistant and provides excellent moisture resistance.

*IMPORTANT MAINTENANCE INFORMATION
Wood is a natural product and DOES require periodic maintenance, even with the most advanced finishes like IDC's Euro X.. Your doors' maintenance schedule will vary depending on exposure to sunlight and water. All finishes are designed to wear off over time (the rate varying by manufacturer) so we recommend visually examing your doors every year, looking for signs of wear (especially the bottom section) and applying a maintenance when needed.
